EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a Registered Dietitian with at least a Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition, CDE (Certified Diabetic Educator).
- Must maintain registration status according to the American Dietetic Association guidelines.
- Possess and demonstrates good written, verbal communication skills, as well as the ability to write reports, business correspondence, and policies and procedures. Must be able to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Possesses basic computer skills and demonstrate the ability to learn new skills in this area.
- Ability to maintain strict confidentiality as defined by hospital policy
- Maintains well-groomed appearance and practices good personal hygiene. Hospital name badge should be worn at all times.
- Be familiar with applicable regulatory standards as they apply to food and nutrition services.
- Be knowledgeable in the fundamentals of performance improvement and risk management programs.
- This employee must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills to provide care to the ages of the patients served by their department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient’s status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient’s requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department’s standards of care and practice and in policy and procedure. Knowledge and skills needed to provide such care are based on physical, psychological, social, educational, safety, and other assessment of the patient.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
- Assess nutritional status of patients based on admission screening scores.
- Effectively communicates patient nutrition interventions/needs with food service staff
- Provide diet counseling for inpatients and outpatients as prescribed by physician.
- Develops and reviews nutrition education materials.
- Conducts in-services and/or classes on nutrition education for hospital staff as needed and at least bi-annually for food service staff.
- Provide community nutrition education programs.
- Approves and signs clinical diet manual annually as required.
- Develop and review protocol for nutritional supplements and formulary.
- Calculate and or modify diet prescriptions.
- Assists Director of Food Services with writing and analyzing patient menus
- Reviews, approves, and signs Patient Menus
- Reviews and revises clinical dietary policies as needed and/or at a minimum every 12 months.
- Attends meetings as assigned by the Chief Financial Officer or the Director of Food Services.
